Leave a Local Legacy
• Education
- Provide Awareness of the missions of non-profit organizations and services provided.
- Education on Non-profit long-term planning such as endowments.
- Provide methods of giving to non-profit organizations
- Estate planning education and seminars
• Website
- Design and provide an organization search list of non-profit organizations
• Leave a Legacy program
- Research and implement the LEAVE A LEGACY® program to benefit our community programs.
Leadership
• Leadership Perry County
- Work with Leadership Perry County on recruitment.
- Work on ways to enhance the current LPC program
- Assist LPC to create a sense of belonging with the LPC alumni.
• Awareness of leadership opportunities
- Increase awareness of what Perry County has to offer for leadership.
- Identify, support and develop the next generation of leaders
• Awareness of organization goals
- Create a program to coordinate organizations strategic plans and goals.
- Conduct a half- to full day to hear from multiple organizations in one sitting (invite elected officials, public, etc.)
- Host a community resource fair to allow community members to visit organizations and talk with members to understand their purpose.
- Increase civic engagement
- Develop an organization list into more than a contact list for the Discover magazine.
Entrepreneurship
• Education/awareness
- Bring awareness of the current entrepreneur assistance available from the Chamber and other organizations
- Market assistance to potential entrepreneurs to raise public awareness
- Start a mentor program utilizing retired professionals to assist entrepreneurs
- Funding
- Establish ‘pathways’ for funding
- Identify and/or help locate sources of venture capital
- Establish a ‘to do’ list taking into account requirements from local lending institutions
• Business assistance
- Better signage to all business districts
- Provide infrastructure to enable businesses to establish at the interstate interchange
- Conduct study to see where those that spend money here live – Do we shop at home?
- Determine how to increase the radius from which our local businesses draw
- Determine and maintain a list of outsourcing opportunities for county businesses
- Entrepreneur personal benefits (retirement, insurance, etc.)
- Explore how Perry County demographics distribution affects entrepreneur start-ups
Youth
• Employment
- Support efforts of economic development to attract and retain jobs in the county
- Educate current students about the jobs available in the county
• Activities for Youth and Adults
- Provide more recreational and cultural activities for youth and adults.
- Address the need for a safe place for youth to “hang out”.
Rural Families Economic Success
• Education attainment
- Increase educational attainment for county residents
- Create more college and career readiness skills – 21st century skills
• Community assets
- Facilitate long-term efforts to bring county together with the US Forest Service
- Utilize the river more as an asset
• Housing
- Engage decision makers in dialogue about the need to balance the types of housing available in the county (public, rental, middle-income and upscale housing).
- Develop short- and long-term goals and make any necessary changes in public policy.
